About Documents
Some features in LexisNexis® CounselLink® allow you to attach supporting documents. These attachments help track agreements or supplemental information that exists outside of CounselLink, such as receipts, correspondence, videos, or other relevant materials.
Documents can be attached to specific items, including matters, invoices, budgets, accruals, or fee offers. You can also upload files for reference only.
Once a document is added, any user with the appropriate read permissions can search for and view it. Law firms also have the option to upload documents during the invoice submission process, and those files can be found through Document Search.
Each attachment can be up to 100 MB in size. There is no limit to the number of attachments or the total size of a batch uploaded at one time.
Document Security
CounselLink clients use one of two different document security types:
- Who can view this document?: This field will display, and the Shared and Access Level fields will not.
- Shared and Access Level: These fields will display, but the Who can view this document? field will not.
Who can view this document?
In the field 'Who can view this document?' you will have three options:
- Only Me: This option makes the document available only to your user account. Document Administrators can not access it.
- Everyone Associated with the document: This option allows document access for all users (both client and law firm) who have access to the Document Type you've selected (e.g. the matter or invoice).
-
Selected User(s): This option brings up the Share This Document window. Select the user(s) from the list and they will be granted access to the document.
Shared and Access Level
The Owner, Shared, and Access Level fields of the Document / Add Documents help you manage the document's security.
- Owner: The user who owns the document.
- Shared: This specifies users who can view the document. Selecting No restricts the document to only client users.
- Access Level: Determines which users / specific clients can view the document(s).
