Discounts allow firms to offer a reduction within their legal bills; these reductions can also be requested or required by the client. The three primary discounts accommodated are:
- Flat Percentage Discounts: These are supplied by the law firm on its fee offer.
- Prompt Pay Discounts: These are applied based on the settings on the law firm fee offer.
- Volume Discount: This feature allows clients and law firms to collaboratively review and track volume discounts.
This article covers the following:
Adding Prompt Pay or Standard Discounts
You can add both Prompt Pay discounts and Standard discounts from the Fee Offer Overview page. Discounts created after a fee offer has been approved will be applied to any subsequent invoice submitted by the firm.
Prompt Pay discounts need to be enabled for your organization in order to use them. You must have the Fee Offer Setup role at the Corporate or Office level to create a discount.
You can access the Create Discount window from two places on the Fee Offer Overview page:
-
Select Create Discount from the More Actions icon.
-
Click the +Create Discount button under the Discounts section at the bottom of the page.
The Create Discount Window displays. Here, you can create a Prompt Pay Discount or new Discount Terms. If you have existing discounts, you can also edit them from this window.

Editing Discounts
If needed, you can modify the discounts within the fee offer.
The client must be configured to permit addition of or edits to fee offer discounts. Contact CounselLink Customer Care or your Account Manager to request that this feature be enabled if you do not currently have this option.
- From the selected Fee Offer Overview screen, click the Discounts tab. The Discounts list is displayed.
-
From the Discounts List, place a check mark next to the Discount Type to be modified and then click the edit (pencil) icon.
The Edit Prompt Pay Discount screen displays.
-
Edit all fields as appropriate, where fields that are marked with an asterisk * is a required field.
When you edit or delete a Prompt Pay Discount on a fee offer, an email is sent to the client notifying them of the change.
- Click Save Discounts.
Viewing Volume Discounts
Volume Discounts allow your client to apply discount levels to your invoices on a single matter or a group of matters. The discount outlines thresholds that will trigger discount percentages once those thresholds are exceeded. Invoices are added to this threshold accumulation once they are approved.
You must have the Admin role to view and manage Volume Discounts.
You can access these discounts in two places:
-
Click the Volume Discounts circle in the Fees & Discounts panel of the homepage.
-
Click Law Firm Profile under your user name in the header.
-
Click Volume Discounts on the left-hand side of the page. The Volume Discounts page displays.
